The Brecon to Hay Greenway

Our engagement survey

Following our initial feasibility study that gave positive feedback on the project, in May 2019, we sent out an engagement survey on our Facebook group and by email. This gained 218 responses and gave us some encouraging and useful information. Firstly, 95% of respondents felt ‘very positive’ or ‘positive’ about the route. We asked people to rank a series of attributes that the route might have. The top five of these were: Safe, Accessible, Away from the road, Family-friendly and Hard Surface. Caring for Ecology, All-weather and Business Opportunities also scored highly.

When asked which section of line people would like to see up and running, over three quarters voted for Glasbury to Hay-on-Wye. In second place was Brecon to Talyllyn, with 15%. 97% of respondents felt that the route would be a draw to tourists and 95% felt that they would use the route, nearly half suggesting that they’d use it at least weekly. Cycling and walking were the favoured modes of transport, but others included running, e-bikes, mobility scooters, adaptable vehicles and wheelchairs, scooters or roller-skates.
